Village Life

Greetings! It is a sweaty sunday afternoon, and I decided that while Adam naps I would attempt to get caught up on our blog. So, last Saturday we took an unexpected (actually everything here is unexpected, there is no concept of time here. We learn about the activities we are doing the day of, about 10 minutes before, and are then told to hurry becuase we will be late. Oh India- our group moto is "no expectations" because then we will be pleasantly supprised at however things turn out. I am not ragging on Indians or anything, it is just totally backwards from our culture that revolves around a clock and day planners. We are getting more used to it) ...so we took and unexpected expedition into a village in the Aruku vally. A man who taught at the NATURE school we visited works with some of the people in this village, and asked us if we would like to visit . So here are some pictures. This place seriously competes for one of the most beautiful places on the planet. hiking into the village. We parked our cars on the side of the road and hiked about a half a mile in.

the group walking through the village crop fields

rice fields, they use gravity to help water their crops, so there are different levels.
looking out into the valley

the bridge that is the entrance to the village

a hut

one of their water spickets. There is one spicket for every 8 families. They just got running water here about 2 years ago.

looking into the village

this is my favorite picture i have taken so far this trip. collin and i were leading the group and walked around the corner to find this little girl walking out her front door. as you can tell by her face, she had never seen a white person before. she stood there for about 30 seconds just frozen before running inside to get her dad.

a baby goat that kept wandering around crying "ma ma ma"looking for its mom. it was so cute!

watching us leave

seriously the most beautiful, serene, and peaceful place we have ever been

the villagers decided to do a dance for us before we left.

i don't know if adam or i took this, neither of us remember taking it, but i think it is hilarious!! children in india are the same as any other kids!!!

having some man time. adam and collin are the only men on the trip.

a picture with all the kids!! they are so cute. the children are definitely the most friendly to us here in india. they don't have any repressed prejudices against white people like most of the grown ups do. they all smile and wave and ask our names.

the baby that i made cry when i smiled at him.

it was so cute, some of the kids were to scared to get very cllose to us, but as we were leaving they would follow us down the road but if we turned around and waved they would run and hode in the bushes. i snuck this picture.
this experience will definitely be at the top of my list for our indian experience. it is so neat to see how others live. even though they lead lives with much less, they are still so very happy! !
